3 Common Renovation Misconceptions
Lets address three common renovation misconceptions that our clients or potential renovators may have.
Number 1: “As a home owner, I can make any renovation changes I like.”
Home owners may have the perception that because they financially own their home they can make any relevant changes. However, this is not the case.
While renovating provides you with the opportunity to customise your home, there are rules, restrictions and certification limitations. There are many council restrictions and engineering regulations that home owners must abide by. As well as limitations such as heritage listings etc.
At Oztown Constructions, we can assist and inform you of the restrictions relevant to your home or block of land.
Number 2: “You should always renovate in line with current home trends.”
While it’s great to stay up to date with current interior trends when renovating, these trends don’t always work in every space. It is important to consider the style of home you have and what you are wanting to achieve.
You may have a Victorian, Federation, Post-War Architecture or Mid-Century Modern style home that does not align with the current trends. Instead you may choose to pay tribute to the authentic architecture of your home.
Trends can be incorporated into your home through interchangeable accessories, allowing you to make easy adaptions as trends constantly change.
It is important to consider the long-term style of your home when renovating, before current trends.
Number 3: “Any builder will be suitable for the job.”
It is important to seek out a reputable, licensed and trustworthy builder, who aligns with your needs, rather than picking the first one that agrees to the job.
A great builder can make or break your renovation experience. So finding a builder that provides great communication and organisation, honours contracts, maintains scheduling and follows through with agreements is crucial.
